A magazine is defined as a periodical that contains various miscellaneous articles, stories, poems, and the like. Often magazines are illustrated. We are all familiar with paper magazines that arrive in our mailboxes or that we purchase in a store. Another form of magazine has become more prevalent and has actually made it cheaper to produce a magazine - online magazines.
I first became interested in the idea of having an online magazine for the Jedi Community two years ago. At the time, though, I had little knowledge of what such an enterprise would entail. Over the past two years, I have done some research and have come to the realization that an online magazine is something that I can actually do. The reality, though, is that an online magazine is really something that everyone in the Jedi Community can do.
Magazines are not written by the editor. An editor’s job is to prepare literary material for publication, to put the material together in an organized format, and to make sure that there is conformity among the articles and that they fit the standard established by the magazine. As such, my job as editor is to correct grammar and spelling errors, make literary material submitted to the magazine more readable, make sure that it is non-offensive or flaming, ascertain that the material is suitable for adolescents and possibly younger children, and to make sure that it is posted in a timely manner.
My job, in essence, is to make the members of the Jedi Community who contribute material for publication shine. Many members of the Jedi Community are very talented and those talents need to be exposed. For that reason, this magazine has been developed. It is for each of you to make this magazine yours.
My standards for the magazine are that it be appropriate for people of all ages to read. Although I will allow controversial articles to appear, I will also allow rebuttal articles to be published as well. This way, rebuttal articles can be well planned and written and may even contain researched material to support the person’s stand. With this knowledge, persons wishing to submit articles may wish to also support their positions with a little research. I will always be available to assist you in developing your submissions as well as dealing with citations and references. Additionally, there will be a ‘Letters to the Editor’ section in which people can submit comments regarding articles or the magazine. I reserve the right to screen the letters submitted for appropriateness.
I will exert no control over what material is published so as to allow the members of the Jedi Community who submit material to have freedom to write about their feelings, beliefs, and such without interference. I only ask that no flaming occurs, that the material be non-offensive, and that there be no negative comments directed at any one member or site within the Jedi Community. As such, it must be understood, and will be posted at the bottom of every article not written by me, that the material published is the not necessarily the views of the editor.
